I have been reading reports from the site of Cindy Sheehan's vigil to speak with the president. According to the people on the ground, and in the ditches, there, people have been driving along that road at high speeds and blaring their horns. Instead of harrassing citizens exercising their First Amendment rights, why aren't you enforcing the speed laws? Are you going to wait until someone is hit by one of these drivers before you enforce the speed laws? Or are you going to instead blame it on the protestors and use such an incident as an excuse to further deprive them of their legal civil rights under the Constitution?
Just asking.

Sheehan
I know this is not PC, and you all know how hard I work at being careful to not offend... but I am not fully getting the Sheehan story. Her kid volunteered for the military, and died in a stupid war. It's terrible, but it's not like he was drafted. You can't join the army with the expectation that you wont go to war, it's a war machine. So if he had come home, whole, and with the college scholorship and the tattoo, would she still be protesting this war? Had she put 1/2 this energy into preventing her kid from joining, would he have? I don't know. I hate Bush, and I think this war is BS, and I think people are being dupped in ways we don't even understand, but I can't muster up too much rightous indignation for Lemmings.

Re: Sheehan
I believe that a lot of the angst is that her son's death is being used as an excuse to stay and get other sons and daughters killed.August 14 2005, 04:22:21 UTC 6 years ago
Re: Sheehan
Apparently she was protesting this war before he went. I have great respect for anyone who feels the call to the military since there is always the chance of dying in combat. Young men and women join, trusting in their leaders to only place them in jeopardy if their country needs to be defended. I think what Sheehan is exposing is the breach of faith on Bush’s part. There was no compelling reason to go into Iraq, other than he and his buddies’ need to make more money. Sheehan and her supporters are protesting this betrayal and trying, in their way, to prevent others from dying because of it.She is a very effective symbol of protest because of the loss of her child and the simplicity of her statement. The right has tried very hard to portray her as a flip-flopper, a media whore, a sad woman unbalanced by grief, etc. The intensity of their attack is an indication of their fear of her.
You’re right – This war is total bullshit. And if she can do anything to help end it, I’m with her. Personally, I love it that she is asking if Bush thinks this war is honorable why aren’t his daughters there?
